Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BMX-001 + cisplatin is an investigational combination therapy comprising **BMX-001**, a synthetic redox-active manganese metalloporphyrin (MnP), with **cisplatin**, a conventional platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent. BMX-001 is designed as a superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetic, acting to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in normal cells while selectively inducing pro-oxidant tumoricidal activity in cancer cells. Mechanistically, BMX-001 inhibits key pro-survival and pro-angiogenic transcription factors like NF-κB and HIF-1α, sensitizing tumor cells to chemotherapy (and radiotherapy) and protecting normal tissues from inflammation and cytotoxic damage. When combined with cisplatin, BMX-001 may reduce cisplatin-induced toxicities (e.g., mucositis, neuropathy) and enhance anticancer efficacy, particularly in the setting of chemoradiation for head and neck squamous cell carcinomas[1][2][4][5][6][7].
