Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BNT162b2 + BNT161** is an investigational mRNA-based combination vaccine developed by BioNTech and Pfizer to prevent both COVID-19 and influenza with a single injection. It encodes the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (from wild-type and Omicron BA.4/BA.5 sublineages) from BNT162b2 alongside influenza hemagglutinin antigens from BNT161 (covering four WHO-recommended Northern Hemisphere strains). The vaccine leverages lipid nanoparticle-delivered mRNA to induce immune responses against both viruses, received FDA Fast Track Designation in 2022, and entered Phase 1 trials to assess safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults.[1][4]
