Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BNT162b4 + BNT162b2 bivalent** is a combination investigational mRNA COVID-19 vaccine comprising two distinct components: BNT162b4, which is an mRNA vaccine encoding conserved non-spike proteins from SARS-CoV-2 (specifically nucleocapsid, membrane, and ORF1ab proteins), and BNT162b2 bivalent, an mRNA vaccine encoding the spike protein of both the original (wild-type) SARS-CoV-2 and Omicron BA.4/BA.5 variants. BNT162b4 is designed to broaden T cell responses for increased protection and durability across SARS-CoV-2 variants. The bivalent BNT162b2 provides humoral immunity by presenting spike proteins from both the ancestral and Omicron lineages. The combination is intended to deliver enhanced and broad protection from severe COVID-19, by pairs of robust T cell and antibody responses, and is under clinical evaluation for this purpose. Both components are developed using BioNTech’s mRNA technology platform and administered intramuscularly[1][4].
