Overview
**boceprevir + INX-08189** is a combination of two investigational antiviral agents developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Boceprevir, marketed as Victrelis, is an HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor that prevents viral replication and is approved for use in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin in adults with HCV genotype 1[1][2]. INX-08189 (also known as INX-189) is an oral phosphoramidate prodrug of 6-O-methyl-2′C-methyl guanosine, acting as a nucleotide analog inhibitor targeting the HCV NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase[8]. Both drugs have demonstrated potent antiviral activity against HCV genotype 1 in clinical studies. Boceprevir was developed by Merck and has been approved for use; however, it must be used in combination therapy due to resistance concerns. INX-08189 was developed by Inhibitex but remained investigational and was studied primarily in early-phase clinical trials before its development was discontinued due to safety concerns.
