Overview

Bone marrow derived CD271+ precursor cells are an autologous cell therapy consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) isolated from a patient's own bone marrow. The isolation process utilizes immunomagnetic selection targeting the CD271 (Low-affinity Nerve Growth Factor Receptor/p75NTR) surface marker, which identifies a specific subpopulation of MSCs with superior proliferative capacity, immunosuppressive activity, and cytokine production compared to standard adherence-based MSCs. This therapy is primarily investigated for neurological conditions such as drug-resistant epilepsy, spinal cord injury, and various encephalopathies, where it is thought to exert neuroprotective and regenerative effects through the secretion of trophic factors and immunomodulation. The technology for this CD271-specific cellular therapy is licensed to Longeveron.
