Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of allogeneic, bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) developed by The University of Queensland for the treatment of chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD) in lung transplant recipients. MSCs are characterized by their immune privilege and potent immunosuppressive and tolerogenic properties, which are leveraged to mitigate the inflammatory processes and organ rejection associated with CLAD. The therapy is currently being evaluated in the Phase 2 ASSIST-CLAD trial, where it is administered intravenously to patients with new-onset CLAD to potentially stabilize or improve lung function by modulating the host immune response.
