Overview

Bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNC) are a heterogeneous population of cells derived from bone marrow that include mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). In the context of therapeutic applications, such as post-prostatectomy erectile dysfunction, these cells are typically harvested autologously and injected locally. The mechanism of action involves the potential replacement of damaged penile cells (endothelial, smooth muscle, and mesenchymal cells) and the secretion of paracrine factors that promote angiogenesis, reduce apoptosis, and mitigate fibrosis in the corpus cavernosum. This regenerative approach aims to restore natural erectile function by addressing the underlying vascular and cellular damage caused by radical prostatectomy.
