Overview
**Bone morphogenetic protein-2 + demineralized bone matrix** is a combination product used as a bone graft substitute to promote bone regeneration and repair. **Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2)** is a recombinant protein that induces osteogenic differentiation, stimulating the formation of new bone tissue. **Demineralized bone matrix (DBM)** is processed allograft bone material from which the mineral content has been removed, retaining organic matrix proteins and endogenous growth factors with osteoinductive and osteoconductive properties. In this combination, DBM serves as a scaffold and carrier for BMP-2, providing a local environment for sustained release and action of BMP-2 at the defect site. This enhances bone healing compared to DBM or BMP-2 alone and mimics the natural bone regeneration process[1][3][4][5]. The combination is used in orthopedic and oral/maxillofacial procedures to treat bone defects and non-unions, and may serve as an alternative to autologous bone grafts[3][4].
