Overview

Bordetella pertussis toxoid antigen (formaldehyde inactivated) is a vaccine component used in the prophylaxis of pertussis (whooping cough), a respiratory disease caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis. The antigen is derived from the pertussis toxin that has been detoxified using formaldehyde, which eliminates its toxicity while preserving its ability to stimulate an immune response. This component is typically included in combination vaccines such as DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis) and Tdap vaccines. It works by inducing actively acquired immunity against pertussis.
