This is a **combination drug** composed of boronophenylalanine, a boron-containing phenylalanine analog primarily used as a boron delivery agent in boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and cetuximab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Boronophenylalanine is selectively taken up by tumor cells via amino acid transporters (notably LAT1), allowing concentration of boron in neoplastic tissue for BNCT, a radiotherapeutic modality that relies on neutron irradiation for selective cytotoxicity in boron-containing cells[5][1][2][7]. Cetuximab binds to EGFR on tumor cells, blocking ligand-dependent signaling and inhibiting cell proliferation, and is approved for use in metastatic colorectal cancer and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
