Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bortezomib + prednisone is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Bortezomib is a proteasome inhibitor that works by inhibiting the 26S proteasome, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of cancer cells. Prednisone is a corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation and suppress immune responses. This combination is often used with melphalan in what's known as the VMP regimen (Velcade, Melphalan, and Prednisone), particularly in elderly patients who are not eligible for high-dose therapy with stem cell transplantation.
