Overview

Botulinum toxin (Inscobee) is a neurotoxic protein product currently under development by the South Korean company Inscobee, primarily through its subsidiary Biolab. The product is a botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A), which functions as a zinc-dependent endopeptidase. Its mechanism of action involves the selective cleavage of the Synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25), a member of the SNARE protein complex. By disrupting this complex, the toxin prevents the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane, thereby inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. This results in temporary, localized muscle paralysis. Inscobee is positioning this product for the medical aesthetics market, specifically for the treatment of facial wrinkles, as well as potential therapeutic uses such as muscle spasticity. The development of this toxin is part of Inscobee's broader expansion into the biopharmaceutical sector, which also includes their bee venom-based drug, Apitoxin.
