Overview

This drug is a combination of botulinum toxin type A and ropivacaine. Botulinum toxin A is a purified neurotoxin protein that blocks acetylcholine release at neuromuscular junctions, causing muscle relaxation and used for various conditions including chronic migraine, muscle spasticity, dystonia, hyperhidrosis, and cosmetic facial wrinkle treatment. Ropivacaine is a local anesthetic that blocks sodium channels in nerve fibers to inhibit nerve impulse conduction, providing regional or local anesthesia for surgery or acute pain management. The combination leverages the neuromuscular blocking effect of botulinum toxin A with the local anesthetic effect of ropivacaine to potentially enhance pain relief and improve clinical outcomes in conditions involving muscle spasm or neuropathic pain. However, co-administration may increase the risk or severity of central nervous system depression.
