Overview

**Botulinum toxin a + TC-3** is a novel **combination drug formulation** for the treatment of interstitial cystitis–bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS). It consists of **botulinum toxin type A** (BTX-A), a neurotoxin protein that inhibits acetylcholine release to reduce smooth muscle contraction, mixed with **TC-3**, a reverse-thermal gelation hydrogel. This mixture is instilled into the bladder as a liquid, where TC-3 transitions to a gel at body temperature, resulting in prolonged and gradual release of BTX-A for several hours. Preliminary studies show it is **safe and temporally effective** in improving symptoms of IC/BPS for several weeks. The mechanism of action combines the neuromodulatory effects of botulinum toxin a with the sustained-release and protective barrier properties of the hydrogel carrier[1].
