Overview

BMI2006 is a newly developed botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) formulation that has been clinically tested for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines (frown lines between the eyebrows). It works by inducing muscle paralysis, specifically targeting enzymatic activity involved in disease pathways[1][3]. A Phase 3 clinical trial demonstrated that BMI2006 is non-inferior to Botox® (onabotulinumtoxin A) for treating glabellar wrinkles, with similar efficacy and safety profiles[3][5]. The study involved 276 subjects who received 20 units of either BMI2006 or Botox®, injected intramuscularly at five different locations on the forehead[3][5]. The primary endpoint assessment at 4 weeks showed no statistically significant difference in improvement rates between BMI2006 and Botox®, confirming BMI2006's non-inferiority[3][5]. Both treatment groups reported high satisfaction levels with no statistical differences between them[3][5]. BMI2006 has an expected duration of action between 8 and 12 weeks for treating glabellar wrinkles[3][5]. Safety evaluations indicated only mild and transient adverse events, with no serious reactions observed during the clinical trials[3][5]. The drug was developed by BMI Korea Co., Ltd., who sponsored the Phase 3 clinical trial that began on February 9, 2021[5]. The trial was designed as a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, parallel-group, active-controlled study[2][3].
