Overview

IPN10200 is an investigational recombinant botulinum toxin product that combines the properties of botulinum toxin type A and botulinum toxin type B. Developed by Ipsen Innovation, it is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of upper limb spasticity. The drug functions by inhibiting the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, leading to localized muscle relaxation. Specifically, the type A component cleaves the synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP-25), while the type B component cleaves the vesicle-associated membrane protein (VAMP, or synaptobrevin). Both proteins are essential for the formation of the SNARE complex that mediates vesicle fusion. By targeting two distinct proteins within the SNARE complex, IPN10200 aims to provide a differentiated clinical profile, potentially offering enhanced efficacy or a different duration of action compared to conventional single-serotype botulinum toxin treatments.
