Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Botulism Antitoxin Heptavalent (A, B, C, D, E, F, G)-(Equine)**, marketed as **BAT** or **HBAT**, is a sterile solution containing purified F(ab')2 and F(ab')2-related immunoglobulin fragments derived from equine plasma of horses immunized against botulinum neurotoxin serotypes A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. It provides **passive immunization** by binding circulating botulinum neurotoxins with high affinity, preventing their attachment to ganglioside anchorage sites and membrane-bound receptors on cholinergic nerve endings, thereby blocking toxin internalization and neuromuscular blockade. Developed and manufactured by **Emergent BioSolutions** (formerly Cangene Corporation), it is administered intravenously for the **treatment of symptomatic botulism** in adults and pediatric patients following documented or suspected exposure to these serotypes, with effectiveness demonstrated in animal models showing preserved muscle function.[1][2][4]
