Overview

BMT-801 is a combination therapy consisting of bremelanotide, a melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) agonist, and tirzepatide, a dual glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. Developed by Palatin Technologies, this investigational drug is being studied for the treatment of obesity. The mechanism of action leverages the synergistic effects of MC4R activation—regulating energy storage and food intake—and incretin pathway stimulation to enhance weight loss. Phase 2 clinical trial results demonstrated that co-administration led to statistically significant weight loss and improved appetite suppression compared to monotherapy arms. Notably, low-dose bremelanotide helped prevent appetite rebound after cessation of tirzepatide[1][5][7].
