Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Breztri Aerosphere is a fixed-dose triple-combination inhaled therapy developed by AstraZeneca for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It contains three active ingredients: budesonide (an inhaled corticosteroid), glycopyrrolate (a long-acting muscarinic antagonist), and formoterol fumarate (a long-acting beta2-agonist). The drug is delivered via a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) using AstraZeneca's proprietary Aerosphere delivery technology, which utilizes porous phospholipid microparticles to ensure uniform delivery of the three components. Breztri is indicated for the long-term maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction and to reduce exacerbations in patients with COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It has demonstrated efficacy in large-scale Phase III trials such as ETHOS and KRONOS, showing significant improvements in lung function and reductions in the rate of moderate-to-severe exacerbations compared to dual therapies.
