Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Brixelle is a novel therapeutic platform developed by Bilix that utilizes PEGylated bilirubin to harness the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of bilirubin while improving its solubility and pharmacokinetics through covalent attachment of polyethylene glycol (PEG). The nanoparticle formulation of Brixelle enables it to protect cells and tissues from oxidative stress and modulate immune responses. Its primary mechanism involves reducing oxidative damage and inflammation, making it particularly promising for conditions such as ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI), which occurs in organ transplantation, heart attacks, and strokes. A single intravenous injection of Brixelle provides both antioxidant protection and anti-inflammatory action[6].
