Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bromfenac + carboxymethylcellulose sodium is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic formulation used for topical application to the eye. Bromfenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby blocking prostaglandin synthesis, which reduces inflammation, pain, and swelling in ocular tissues[1][2][6][9]. Carboxymethylcellulose sodium acts as an ocular lubricant or artificial tear, providing moisture and relief from dryness or irritation. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of postoperative inflammation and reduction of ocular pain following cataract surgery. The addition of carboxymethylcellulose sodium may enhance patient comfort by improving lubrication during NSAID therapy.
