Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of two small molecule drugs, bromocriptine and cyclosporine. Bromocriptine is a dopamine D2 receptor agonist primarily used to treat hyperprolactinemia-related disorders, Parkinson's disease, and acromegaly. Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressant that acts as a calcineurin inhibitor, widely used for the prevention of organ transplant rejection and in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. The combination has been studied for its potential additive or synergistic immunosuppressive effects in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and experimental autoimmune uveitis. Some studies suggest that bromocriptine may enhance the immunosuppressive effect of low-dose cyclosporine by further suppressing T cell proliferation and antibody production[1][2][5]. However, other studies indicate no clear additive effect on immune suppression when both are combined[5].
