This is a **combination drug** consisting of bromocriptine mesylate and metformin, both of which are oral medications used primarily in the management of **type 2 diabetes mellitus**. Bromocriptine mesylate acts as a dopamine D2 receptor agonist; its antidiabetic effect is believed to involve modulation of central nervous system dopaminergic pathways, resulting in improved metabolic control and decreased hepatic glucose production. Metformin is a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose output and enhances insulin sensitivity. Used together, studies indicate this combination provides improved glycemic control (as measured by significant reductions in fasting plasma glucose, postprandial glucose, and HbA1C) compared to metformin monotherapy, without significant effects on body weight.
