Overview

This is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents: bucillamine and prednisolone. Bucillamine is a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) developed in Japan, primarily used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It is structurally similar to D-penicillamine and exerts its effects through modulation of immune responses, likely via its sulfhydryl groups[1][2][5][8]. Prednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It acts by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, inhibiting pro-inflammatory signals (such as NF-kappa B), reducing leukocyte migration, decreasing capillary permeability, and promoting anti-inflammatory gene expression[3]. The combination may be used in clinical scenarios where both immunomodulation (from bucillamine) and rapid anti-inflammatory action (from prednisolone) are desired.
