Bupivacaine + benzydamine is a combination drug consisting of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: - **Bupivacaine** is a long-acting local anesthetic of the amide type, primarily used to induce local or regional anesthesia by blocking nerve impulse conduction. It acts by inhibiting sodium influx through voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, thereby preventing depolarization and transmission of pain signals[5][8][9]. - **Benzydamine** is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with local anesthetic and analgesic properties. It provides rapid and extended pain relief as well as significant anti-inflammatory effects, mainly for painful inflammatory conditions of the mouth and throat. Benzydamine acts locally on inflamed tissues, reducing prostaglandin synthesis via inhibition of prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 (COX-2)[1][4][7]. This combination would theoretically provide both potent local anesthesia (from bupivacaine) and additional anti-inflammatory/analgesic action (from benzydamine), potentially useful in settings where both profound numbness and reduction in inflammation are desired.
