Overview
This drug is a combination of the local anesthetic bupivacaine, the alpha-2 adrenergic agonist dexmedetomidine, and the vasoconstrictor epinephrine. It is used as a regional anesthetic mixture for field blocks to manage postoperative pain, specifically studied by Mansoura University in pediatric patients undergoing inguinal hernia surgery. Bupivacaine provides regional anesthesia by blocking sodium channels, dexmedetomidine acts as an analgesic adjunct to prolong the duration of the block and improve pain scores, and epinephrine acts as a vasoconstrictor to reduce systemic absorption and further extend the local effect.
