This combination therapy consists of the local anesthetics bupivacaine and lidocaine along with the corticosteroid dexamethasone, administered as an ultrasound-guided stellate ganglion block (SGB). Developed by researchers at Fayoum University, this intervention is being evaluated for the treatment of primary palmar hyperhidrosis. The local anesthetics work by blocking sodium channels to interrupt sympathetic nerve transmission, while dexamethasone is included to extend the duration of the block and mitigate local inflammation. This approach aims to provide a minimally invasive alternative to surgical sympathectomy or long-term oral medications like anticholinergics.
