Overview

This is a combination of two local anesthetics, bupivacaine and oxybuprocaine (also known as oxubuprocaine), used primarily for local or regional anesthesia. Both agents act by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. Bupivacaine is an amide-type anesthetic with a long duration of action, commonly used for surgical anesthesia and pain management[2][3]. Oxybuprocaine is an ester-type anesthetic mainly used in ophthalmology to numb the surface of the eye during diagnostic or minor surgical procedures[1][8]. The combination may be considered when both rapid onset (from oxybuprocaine) and prolonged effect (from bupivacaine) are desired.
