bupropion + citalopram

This is a combination therapy of two antidepressant medications, bupropion and citalopram. Bupropion is an aminoketone class antidepressant that primarily inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, thereby increasing their levels in the brain. Citalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases serotonin levels by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic neurons. The combination is used off-label for treatment-resistant depression when monotherapy with either agent has been insufficient. Clinical studies suggest this combination can be more effective than switching to monotherapy in patients who have not responded to initial treatment[1][7]. Both drugs are taken orally.
