Overview
Bushen formula + dehydroepiandrosterone is an investigational combination therapy being developed by Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) in women. The therapy integrates traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with Western hormonal supplementation. It consists of a 'Bushen' (kidney-tonifying) formula—specifically the Bushen Yiqi formula or Bushen Yuyin Tiaochong Decoction—paired with dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a steroid hormone precursor. DHEA is converted into androgens and estrogens within the ovarian follicles, which is thought to enhance folliculogenesis and improve the ovarian microenvironment. The TCM component aims to regulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and improve reproductive health according to traditional principles. Clinical trials evaluate the combination's ability to improve fertility markers, including anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) levels, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, and antral follicle count (AFC).
