Overview

This is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, buspirone and escitalopram, used primarily in the management of anxiety and depressive disorders. Buspirone is an anxiolytic agent that acts as a serotonin 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist, with minor activity at dopamine receptors. It is primarily indicated for generalized anxiety disorder and as a second-line treatment for depression[4][3]. Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant that increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake into presynaptic neurons; it is approved for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder[7][3]. The combination may be considered when monotherapy does not provide adequate symptom control. However, co-administration increases the risk of serotonin syndrome due to additive serotonergic effects[1][2][6].
