butylphthalide + sodium chloride

**Butylphthalide + sodium chloride** is an intravenous Chinese neuroprotective formulation marketed as **Enbipu** for improving neurological deficits in acute ischemic stroke. Each 100 mL infusion contains 25 mg of DL-3-n-butylphthalide and 0.9 g sodium chloride; sodium chloride functions as the vehicle rather than a second pharmacologically active drug. DL-3-n-butylphthalide is a lipophilic small molecule derived from a constituent originally identified in Chinese celery seed. Its clinical rationale is pleiotropic neuroprotection during cerebral ischemia, including improved ischemic-region microcirculation and energy metabolism, reduced oxidative stress and inflammatory signaling, inhibition of platelet aggregation and neuronal apoptosis, and support of neurological recovery. The usual regimen is intravenous administration of 100 mL twice daily for about 14 days.
