BXCL501 is an investigational proprietary, orally dissolving thin film formulation of dexmedetomidine, a selective alpha-2a adrenergic receptor agonist. It is designed for the acute treatment of agitation associated with neuropsychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer's dementia, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders. The drug works by activating alpha-2a adrenergic receptors in the brain, producing sedative and anti-anxiety effects.
