Overview

BZ-4 TCR-engineered CD8+ T cells are an autologous T-cell receptor (TCR) therapy developed by the NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The therapy involves CD8+ T cells genetically modified to express the BZ-4 TCR, which was originally isolated from a patient who experienced immune-mediated regression of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) after an allogeneic stem cell transplant. This TCR specifically recognizes the CT-RCC-1 peptide, a 10-mer derived from human endogenous retrovirus type E (HERV-E), presented in the context of HLA-A11. The drug is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial for patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
