Overview

Cabazitaxel + abiraterone acetate is a combination therapy used primarily in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), particularly in patients previously treated with docetaxel. Cabazitaxel is a second-generation, semisynthetic taxane that acts as a microtubule inhibitor, promoting microtubule polymerization and inhibiting cell division, leading to tumor cell death. Abiraterone acetate is an androgen biosynthesis inhibitor that blocks Cytochrome P450 17A1, reducing androgen production and thereby suppressing tumor growth driven by androgens. The combination leverages both cytotoxic (cabazitaxel) and hormone-directed (abiraterone) mechanisms to improve progression-free survival (PFS), PSA response rates, and delay time to progression compared to monotherapy regimens[2][4][5][6].
