Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcipotriene + triamcinolone acetonide is a topical combination drug consisting of calcipotriene, a synthetic vitamin D3 analog, and triamcinolone acetonide, a medium- to high-potency corticosteroid. Calcipotriene works by binding to the vitamin D receptor on keratinocytes, modulating gene expression and inhibiting their proliferation while promoting differentiation. Triamcinolone acetonide acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by suppressing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators through glucocorticoid receptor activation. This combination is intended for use in inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis or other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses where both reduction of inflammation and normalization of keratinocyte growth are desired[6][8]. The synergistic effect may provide enhanced efficacy compared to monotherapy with either agent.
