Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcipotriol + betamethasone is a fixed-dose topical combination of a synthetic vitamin D analogue (calcipotriol, also known as calcipotriene) and a potent synthetic corticosteroid (betamethasone dipropionate). It is primarily used for the treatment of plaque psoriasis on the skin and scalp in adults and adolescents. Calcipotriol acts by binding to the vitamin D receptor, regulating skin cell production and differentiation, thereby reducing excessive proliferation seen in psoriasis. Betamethasone exerts anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by activating glucocorticoid receptors. The combination provides superior efficacy compared to either agent alone by targeting both inflammation (betamethasone) and abnormal keratinocyte proliferation/differentiation (calcipotriol). The product is available as ointment, gel, foam, cream or suspension formulations[1][2][4][5][6].
