Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcipotriol + clobetasone butyrate is a topical combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of psoriasis and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. Calcipotriol is a synthetic vitamin D3 analogue that acts by inhibiting keratinocyte proliferation and promoting differentiation, thereby normalizing epidermal growth. Clobetasone butyrate is a moderately potent topical corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, erythema, and pruritus through anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The combination aims to enhance efficacy while reducing skin irritation compared to calcipotriol monotherapy. Clinical studies have shown this combination to be more effective than calcipotriol alone in reducing psoriasis severity (as measured by PASI score) and associated with fewer local adverse events such as skin irritation[1][2]. This regimen allows for tailored potency of the corticosteroid component depending on patient needs.
