Calcitriol + calcium carbonate is a fixed-dose combination of two agents used primarily to manage conditions associated with low blood calcium levels. Calcitriol is the active form of vitamin D3, which increases intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphate, reduces parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion, and helps maintain bone mineralization. Calcium carbonate acts as a supplemental source of elemental calcium, essential for bone health and various physiological functions. The combination is indicated for use in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), hypoparathyroidism, pseudohypoparathyroidism, vitamin D–dependent rickets, hypophosphatemic rickets/osteomalacia, and other conditions where both active vitamin D and supplemental calcium are required to correct or prevent hypocalcemia[4][9]. The combined therapy improves biochemical parameters related to bone metabolism and may slow the progression of bone loss in early renal failure[4]. However, it carries risks such as hypercalcemia; therefore monitoring serum and urine calcium levels during therapy is recommended[9].
