calcitriol + iron supplements

Calcitriol + iron supplements is a combination nutritional/supplementation regimen consisting of calcitriol (the active hormonal form of vitamin D, also known as 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) and iron supplements (specifically iron polysaccharide complex). This combination is being investigated by Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital in a randomized, open-label clinical trial for patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Calcitriol acts as an agonist on the vitamin D receptor (VDR), a nuclear receptor involved in immune modulation, neuroprotection, and neurotransmitter regulation. Iron is an essential mineral and a critical cofactor for enzymes involved in dopamine synthesis and immune-neural homeostasis. The combination is hypothesized to correct vitamin D and iron deficiencies, thereby normalizing glutamatergic metabolism in the anterior cingulate-thalamic circuit and improving inhibitory control deficits associated with OCD.
