Calcium + fluoride refers to a combination of the minerals calcium and fluoride, most commonly used in oral care products such as toothpastes, gels, rinses, and varnishes. This combination is designed to enhance dental health by leveraging the remineralizing properties of both ions. Fluoride reduces demineralization and promotes remineralization of tooth enamel by forming a protective layer of fluorapatite that is more resistant to acid attack than natural hydroxyapatite. Calcium provides an essential mineral for enamel repair and works synergistically with fluoride to increase the deposition of minerals on teeth surfaces. The combined use can result in greater efficacy for caries prevention compared to either ion alone, offering increased remineralization effects or allowing lower concentrations of fluoride while maintaining effectiveness[6][8][10]. These formulations are primarily indicated for preventing dental caries (tooth decay), reducing dentin sensitivity, and supporting overall oral health.
