Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium carbonate + cholecalciferol is a combination medication used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. It is indicated for conditions such as bone loss (osteoporosis), weak bones (osteomalacia/rickets), decreased activity of the parathyroid gland (hypoparathyroidism), and certain muscle diseases. The combination works by providing supplemental calcium and vitamin D3; calcium is essential for normal nerve, cell, muscle, and bone function while vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus. This medication is available over-the-counter and as a generic product.[1][2][5]
