Overview
Ostelin-D is an oral combination supplement containing calcium carbonate and colecalciferol (vitamin D3). Developed and marketed by Everest Pharmaceuticals in Bangladesh, it is widely used for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, as well as an adjunct therapy in the management of bone disorders such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, and tetany. Calcium carbonate provides elemental calcium, which is essential for bone mineralization, muscle contraction, and nerve transmission. Colecalciferol is a prohormone that undergoes hepatic and renal hydroxylation to its active form, calcitriol, which binds to the vitamin D receptor (VDR) to enhance intestinal calcium absorption and maintain calcium homeostasis.
