Overview
Calcium carbonate + magnesium hydroxide is an over-the-counter combination antacid used to relieve symptoms of indigestion, upset stomach, and heartburn. The two active ingredients work by neutralizing excess gastric acid in the stomach. Calcium carbonate acts as a fast-acting antacid that directly neutralizes hydrochloric acid in gastric secretions. Magnesium hydroxide also neutralizes stomach acid and can counteract the constipating effect of calcium carbonate due to its mild laxative properties. This combination provides rapid relief from symptoms associated with hyperacidity such as heartburn and sour stomach[2][3][4].
