Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This product is a **multi-ingredient crystalloid intravenous solution** containing calcium chloride, dextrose monohydrate, sodium chloride, sodium lactate, and potassium chloride. It is used as a **parenteral fluid and electrolyte replacement** and **caloric source**, and may also serve as an **alkalinizing agent**. Its pharmacologic effect is nonspecific and systemic: dextrose provides carbohydrate calories and supports blood glucose, sodium chloride and potassium chloride replenish extracellular sodium, chloride, and potassium, calcium chloride supplies calcium, and sodium lactate is metabolized to bicarbonate precursors that contribute an alkalinizing effect. It is marketed as Lactated Ringer's and Dextrose or Potassium Chloride in Lactated Ringer's and Dextrose Injection and is used in adults and pediatric patients requiring replacement of water and electrolytes, including extracellular fluid losses with minimal carbohydrate calories.
