Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium citrate + cholecalciferol is a combination of calcium citrate (a highly absorbable form of calcium) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). This combination is primarily used to prevent or treat calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, particularly in conditions like osteoporosis. Calcium is essential for bone formation and maintenance, while vitamin D enhances calcium absorption in the intestines, promotes renal reabsorption of calcium, and stimulates bone mineralization. The combination is considered more effective than either component alone for bone health and has been shown to reduce the incidence of non-vertebral and hip fractures when taken at appropriate dosages.
