Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination product containing two active ingredients: calcium citrate (a bioavailable form of supplemental calcium) and vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). It is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels in individuals who do not get enough dietary calcium. The combination is indicated for conditions such as osteoporosis, osteomalacia/rickets, hypoparathyroidism, latent tetany, and for populations at risk of deficiency (e.g., pregnant or postmenopausal women)[1][3][8]. Calcium plays a critical role in nerve transmission, muscle function, cellular signaling, and bone health. Vitamin D2 enhances intestinal absorption of both calcium and phosphorus by increasing the expression of transport proteins involved in their uptake[1][5][8]. This synergistic effect helps maintain adequate serum levels necessary for bone mineralization.
