calcium sodium phosphosilicate + fluoride is a combination used primarily in oral care, particularly in toothpastes and dental prophylaxis pastes, to address dentin hypersensitivity and promote remineralization of dental tissues. Calcium sodium phosphosilicate (often cited by the trade name NovaMin) is a bioactive glass that releases calcium and phosphate ions when in contact with saliva, driving the formation of a hydroxyapatite-like layer that occludes dentinal tubules. The addition of fluoride further enhances remineralization, facilitating the formation of fluoroapatite, which is more acid-resistant than hydroxyapatite. The dual mechanism thus provides both immediate and longer-term sensitivity relief, as well as protection against demineralization, although studies indicate that high concentration fluoride alone may have a greater effect on remineralization and acid resistance than CSPS alone. Formulations containing both may provide synergistic benefits compared to either alone for relief of hypersensitivity and caries prevention[1][2][3].
