Overview
Calendula + Echinacea (brand name Calcea) is a topical herbal and anthroposophic ointment developed by WALA Heilmittel GmbH. It contains a combination of *Calendula officinalis* (marigold) flower extract and *Echinacea purpurea/pallida* (coneflower) extract. The product is designed to treat skin barrier damage, irritant contact dermatitis, and promote wound healing. Calendula is traditionally used for its anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties, while Echinacea provides immune-modulating and anti-inflammatory effects. The ointment has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials assessing its efficacy in reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and skin inflammation in models of sodium lauryl sulphate-induced irritation.
