Overview
camizestrant + anastrozole is an investigational combination therapy being developed by AstraZeneca for the treatment of hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative advanced breast cancer. The combination consists of camizestrant (AZD9833), a potent, next-generation oral selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) and antagonist, and anastrozole, a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor. Camizestrant works by binding to the estrogen receptor (ER), inducing its degradation and blocking estrogen-mediated signaling, while anastrozole reduces the overall levels of circulating estrogen by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme. This dual approach aims to more effectively suppress the ER signaling pathway in patients with endocrine-resistant disease. The combination is currently being evaluated in clinical trials, such as the Phase 1 SERENA-1 study, where it is administered orally to patients with advanced disease.
